Adder

Adders are smaller and stockier than grass snakes. Many people mistake grass snakes or even slow-worms for adders, but adders have very distinct dark zigzag markings all the way down their back. They can vary in colour a lot, but males are often greyish with a black zigzag, and females are often brown with a dark brown zigzag.
